High School Football Matchups of the Week

Here are some of our top high school football matchups of the week.

Welcome back to another exciting week of high school football. Friday Night Lights has looked different this year as many teams have been forced to delay or reschedule their seasons due to Covid-19. However, there is still a lot of football to be played in 2020. Here are our top games of the week.

10/10: IMG Academy (FL) #1 Nationally vs. Duncanville (TX) #2 Nationally

The IMG Academy Ascenders come into this game undefeated as the #1 ranked team in the country. The Ascender’s have seven of the Top 300 overall players in the class of 2021, including Michigan Commit J.J. McCarthy at QB and Alabama commit JC Latham at OT. Playing a national schedule, they are used to the big stage.

The Duncanville Panthers are also accustomed to the spotlight. The 1-0 Panthers have been class 6A Division state runners-up for the last two seasons. Led by 2019 National Coach of the Year, Reginald Samples, the Panthers are coming into this game as the nation’s number 2 ranked team. Notable players include the number 43 ranked player in the country, Savion Byrd, at tackle. Additionally, the Alabama commit Kendrick Blackshire will line up as inside linebacker for the Panthers.

It’s going to be a great game between two top programs. Kick-off is scheduled to take place in Texas on October 10th at 8pm.

10/9: Lowndes High School (Valdosta, GA) #10 Nationally vs. Valdosta High School (Valdosta, GA)

Valdosta, Georgia is a small-town city located 3 hours south of Atlanta. It’s a small city, full of big-name talent, and was nominated as one of ESPN’s Titletown, USA locations. On Friday night, two of the South’s top teams will duke it out in Valdosta.

Lowndes High School will take the field led by new coach, Jamey DuBose. Coach DuBose comes to the Vikings from the state of Alabama, where he won three state titles. The 4-0 Vikings are ranked number 10 in the country, and led by Miami commit, Thomas Davis and Louisville commit TJ Quinn.

The Valdosta Wildcats have been one of the most successful programs in the country with six national championships and 24 state championships. The Wildcats are coached by Rush Propst and have a variety of talent. Notable commits include wide receivers Javonta Sherma and Aaiah Brown. Additionally, the defense is led by Louisville commit Jaylin Alderman.

10/10: De Smet Jesuit #16 Nationally (St. Louis, MO)  vs. Christian Brothers College High School (St. Louis, MO) 

De Smet Jesuit Spartans take the field in their first game of the season against Christian Brothers College High School. The two notable Catholic programs will battle it out for the top team in the state.

De Smet Jesuit is led by former Memphis Tiger, Coach Robert Steeples. The Spartans are coming off a great 2019 season as Missouri State Champions. Limited by Covid restrictions, this will be one of the few games for De Smet Jesuit to flex their talent on the field. The Spartans are led by Ohio State commit Jakalln Johnson at cornerback, Illinois commit Brody Wisecarver at offensive tackle, and Missouri commits Mekhl Wingo and Taj Butts.

Christian Brothers College High School is coached by Thomas McDaniel. The Cadets are one of the top programs in Missouri, and will get a chance at revenge against De Smet Jesuit, after a hard fought loss in 2019.  The Cadets are led by Illinois commit Chevy Brenson at receiver,

10/9: Chandler High School #7 Nationally (Chandler, AZ)  vs. Pinnacle High School (Phoenix, AZ)

The Chandler High School is one of Arizona’s premier high school programs with 7 of the Top Big 150 prospects. The team is led by Oregon commit, Brandon Bucker, quarterback Mikey Keene, and linebacker Kyle Orr. The team is coached by Rick Garretson,. Coach Garretson has won three 6A championships and four of the past five titles.

The Pinnacle High School Pioneers are led by Coach Dana Zupke. This will be the Pioneer’s second game of the season, after they lined up against Horizon last week. Player to watch for the Pioneers will be receiver Dorian Singer, and Stanford Commit Anthony Franklin at defensive end.
